Happy New Year! It's that time of year again when we reflect on the past and set goals for the future. You know the drill: eat healthier, exercise more, save money, etc. But let's be real, how many of us actually stick to our resolutions? This year, instead of making grand, overwhelming promises to ourselves, let's focus on small, attainable goals.
People make New Year Resolutions because they want to "feel" a specific way, when achieving that goal. But there are a lot of ways to "feel" that same feeling along the way in achieving goals or resolutions.
So how do you want to FEEL in 2023? Take time to reflect in your journal and decide, what feelings do you want to feel? If you imagine when you accomplish a Big Goal in your life, what does that accomplishment truly "feel like" and what is the Result of that goal being achieved?
Joy
Love
Gratitude
Peace
Hope
Serenity
Satisfied
Bliss
Smart
Excitement
Energized
Inspired
Courageous
Confident
Pride
Contentment
Optimistic
Freedom
Fun
Relief
Beautiful
Happy
Successful
Secure
Strong
Achieving a goal can feel incredibly satisfying and rewarding. It can bring a sense of accomplishment, pride, and joy. You may also feel a sense of relief or freedom if the goal was something that had been weighing on your mind or causing stress. But you can also do things while you are on the path to achieving a Big Goal that you have set for yourself, and feel the same feelings you would feel as a result of accomplishing that goal.
For instance, let's go with the classical resolution "Losing weight & getting Healthy" resolution. If you lose the amount of weight you set out for yourself, you will possibly feel:
Confident
Beautiful
Successful
So let's think of things you could incorporate into your life daily to feel this way. What makes you feel confident, what makes you feel beautiful and successful?
Incorporate daily confidence affirmations
Self-care - set aside time daily for yourself to focus on yourself. From reading to meditating, taking a bubble bath, or a walk in nature.
The focus on eating whole-natural foods that give you energy
Set a small goal daily that is achievable and follow through with that goal to feel the success of accomplishment
Either way, it's important to remember that progress, not perfection, is the goal. These small daily acts can keep you moving in the direction of achieving your large goal and feeling the same feeling along the way. Be proud of the progress you have made and the effort you put in and don't be too hard on yourself if you didn't accomplish everything you set out to do.
As we look ahead to the new year, let's focus on setting small, achievable goals and making it fun, and learning to feel the emotions we hope to feel when we accomplish a big goal.
Here's to a happy and successful 2023 year ahead!
