Overcoming Self-Doubt: Strategies for Increasing Confidence & Happiness

Do you ever feel like you just don't have enough confidence to take on the day-to-day activities, or do big things in your life? You're not alone. Many women - especially moms - struggle with feeling powerful and sure of themselves. But having a sense of self-confidence can be so important for our health and wellbeing. That's why we've put together some simple strategies that will help you build up your self confidence each day!

Here are a few simple (but powerful!) ways you can find that self-assurance you need!

Set and achieve small goals: Accomplishing small tasks and goals can help you build momentum and a sense of accomplishment, which can boost your confidence.

Start with small goals - choose goals that are achievable and not too overwhelming. Small, incremental goals can help you build momentum and a sense of accomplishment. Be as specific as possible with this small goal. For example, instead of setting a goal to "exercise more," set a goal to "exercise for 30 minutes three times a week." Set deadlines: Deadlines can help you stay motivated and on track. Make sure to set realistic deadlines for yourself, but also be flexible if you need to adjust your timeline.

Practice self-care: Taking care of yourself physically and emotionally can help you feel more confident and capable. This can include things like getting enough sleep, exercising, eating well, and finding healthy ways to manage stress.

Self-care is an important practice to incorporate into your everyday life. On a daily basis, try to make some time to do something that you enjoy and provides a sense of accomplishment or pride. This could be something as simple as taking 10 minutes for yourself before bed to read, or going for a 20-minute walk around the block during your lunch break. Make sure to take care of your body’s physical needs; get plenty of sleep, eat healthy and nutritious meals, and drink enough water. Exercise can also help build resilience and provide stress relief in the long run. Additionally, get outside in nature at least once a day - whether this is an outdoor jog, bike ride, or simply sitting in the park with friends - being surrounded by nature has been proven to positively impact mental health. Connecting with others is essential too – schedule virtual meet-ups with your friends or family members; having social support can make you feel less alone and more connected. Make sure you are challenging yourself intellectually – learn something new each day! Whether this is picking up a new hobby or reading up on an interesting topic online, focus on personal growth and development through gaining knowledge that will benefit you both now and in the future.

Learn new skills: Acquiring new skills or knowledge can give you a sense of accomplishment and make you feel more confident in your abilities.

The skills you choose to learn can help you in the areas of life you want to build confidence, such as public speaking, organization, setting boundaries, etc. Or you can choose to learn a skill that helps you to connect with yourself and have some time learning things that interest you. Some of these skills could be:

  1. Drawing or painting

  2. Photography

  3. Gardening

  4. Cooking or baking

  5. Sewing or knitting

  6. Woodworking or carpentry

  7. Music (e.g. playing an instrument, singing)

  8. Dancing

  9. Writing (e.g. poetry, fiction, nonfiction)

  10. Acting or performing

  11. Sculpture

  12. Printmaking

  13. Pottery or ceramics

  14. Jewelry making

  15. Glassblowing

  16. Calligraphy

  17. Weaving

  18. Beekeeping

Surround yourself with supportive people: Surrounding yourself with people who believe in you and encourage you can help you feel more confident.

Finding supportive people in your life is an essential part of finding happiness. You should surround yourself with people who are kind, open minded, and understanding. To find these people, start by looking within your current circle of friends and family. Ask yourself whether these individuals are truly listening to you when you talk about topics that matter to you or if they’re using it as an opportunity to talk about themselves. Additionally, look for those who celebrate your successes just as much as their own. They should be encouraging and respectful of the decisions that you make on a regular basis while also offering constructive criticism when necessary.

The most supportive people in your life should also be generous with their time and resources. A true friend will happily lend a hand whenever possible; whether it’s helping with a move or lending an ear during tough times. Furthermore, if they have the capacity to help financially they will do so without hesitation and without expecting anything in return. Supportive friends don’t gossip behind your back but keep all conversations confidential. They also communicate openly and honestly so that misunderstandings can be avoided.

If you need more time to figure out who is genuinely supportive of you, take some time for yourself before moving forward with any relationships. This will give you the clarity needed to identify which individuals bring out the best in you and which ones might not be beneficial for your growth. Once you have identified them, attempt to foster strong relationships with those who are encouraging and understanding of your dreams and goals; no matter how small or large they may seem!

Take on challenges: Taking on challenges, even small ones, and working to overcome them can help you build confidence in your abilities and resilience.

Practice positive self-talk: Pay attention to the way you talk to yourself, and try to reframe negative thoughts into more positive ones.

Using daily affirmations helps to keep your mind focused on confidence and doing things that will promote self confidence within yourself. But it's important to find the affirmations that actually mean something to you and words that actually speak to your heart. Here is a list of Confidence Affirmations ideas.

Find your purpose: Finding meaning and purpose in your role as a mom can help you feel more confident and fulfilled.

You can do this by reflecting on your values and passions. Think about what matters most to you and what you enjoy doing. What activities bring you joy and fulfillment? What values are most important to you? Consider your natural strengths and what you are naturally good at. What skills do you enjoy using? What are you excited to do in your free time? These strengths and skills may be important in finding your purpose. Also, look back on your past experiences and consider what you have learned and enjoyed. This can help you identify patterns and interests that may be important in finding your purpose.

As a Journal prompt this week, ask yourself these questions for better clarity:

1. Why is it difficult for me to be confident?

2. How can I start building my confidence?

3. What are some things I can do to build my confidence?

4. How can I maintain my confidence?

5. What can I do if my confidence is shaken?

It’s no surprise that we tend feel overwhelmed and under-confident in many aspects of our lives. But as women, we owe it to ourselves - and those who depend on us - to keep up our mental wellbeing by building confidence in ourselves.Remember, building confidence takes time and effort, and it may not happen overnight. It's important to be patient and kind to yourself as you work on building your confidence.
